THIS
BASEBALL AT ITS MOST GENUINE |
Everything
you love about minor league baseball is here at Shirley Povich
Field - affordable prices, good family fun, and players who are
nice to your kids. No huge player contracts, no huge egos, just
pure baseball the way it was meant to be played. Step back into
our baseball time machine and honor two of the most admirable
figures in the history of sport - Washington's own Walter
Johnson and Shirley Povich.
Our team name, the Bethesda Big Train, comes from the nickname
of Walter Johnson - baseball's greatest pitcher, and a longtime
resident of Bethesda. And our ballpark at Cabin John Regional
Park is named Shirley Povich Field in memory of the extraordinary
and gifted Washington Post sportswriter who was Washington baseball's
greatest historian.

The
Bethesda Community Base Ball Club was incorporated with the
purpose of improving youth baseball and softball fields in our
area. Profits from sales of tickets, souvenirs, and concessions
at Bethesda Big Train home games at Shirley Povich Field, as well
as funds raised from the annual Base Ball and Auction, will go
to improve youth baseball and softball fields throughout the area.
